2008 AGM Report

We thought you might want to know how the AGM went, so here’s a little report on the key points. If you would like to read the full minutes, which include the annual accounts and a report on the year’s activities (also summarised in the thank you section below) just contact me and I can email or post them to you.

Total transferred to Oxfam during this year: £11,210.08

Committee elections for 2009:
Chair – Julia Gilbert (sec Rachel Iliffe)
Treasurer- Chris Baker (sec Julia Gilbert)
Membership Secretary – Anastasia Heath (sec Chris Baker)
Media Secretary – Rachel Iliffe (sec Katie May)
Secretary –there were two candidates: Anna Myers and Naveed Chaudhri. There was therefore an election – see below.
Neither candidate could be present. Meeting felt that either would be excellent. Naveed was understood to be interested in chairing the One World Fair workgroup for 2009 and it was suggested that it might be better for him not to have secretarial workload as well. A vote was held: AM 7 votes, NC 0 votes.
Anna Myers was elected Secretary
Chair agreed to ask Naveed to serve as committee member without portfolio. [since the meeting, Naveed has agreed to be co-opted onto the committee]

Membership fees for 2009: It was agreed to leave these unchanged.
£3.50 unwaged
£10 single waged person

One World Fair Report

The One World Fair was once again a really lovely and busy event, the hall looked bright and packed and very pretty, the vegetarian café was – thanks to all those who volunteered to cook and bake – a very tasty success, and the music from the Nick Gill Trio and the Sea Green Singers made the atmosphere even more festive.

A very big thank you to everyone who participated in preparing for the event and helping out on the day – in particular a special note for everyone helping out in the kitchen and having to cope with plumbing issues as well as all the dishes! The event raised £1795, which was quite close to last year’s figure, even though we were slightly down on attendance, based on the number of tickets handed out at the door. Next year we hope to publicise the event even more, which should help keep the numbers up.

Jan and Tim Treacher will be standing down from the OWF committee next year. A huge thanks to them for all the work they’ve done over the years for this workgroup, and for chairing once again this year. Next year Naveed Chaudhri will chair the committee. We are also hoping to get some new helpers on board to be involved with the preparation of the event in the months leading up to it – the more the merrier! If you want to help in us organise the 2009 One World Fair, please get in touch with us.

A big end-of-the-year thanks

to Jan and Tim, the One World Fair Committee and everyone who helped out on the day, for all their efforts in running this big event.
to Helen and the whole Book Fair workgroup for all their hard work this year sorting and pricing and on the day, and for putting in the extra time to really improve the quality of books on offer. A big thanks also for all those lucrative but time conusuming mobile bookfairs
to those of you who put together your own creative fundraising events or donated extra money to Oxfam
and to everyone who helped out at our other events and stalls this year: the Fair Trade stall outside the Broad Street shop, the campaigning stall at the Broad Street Shop’s 60th Anniversary, the G8 Tanabata card stall in Cornmarket, and the Headington Roadrunners’ annual run stall.
